Brainspotting Therapy: A Gentle Way to Release Trauma from the Body

What if healing didn't require you to talk through everything?
Not everyone heals the same way. For some people, talking about trauma in detail can feel retraumatizing. The good news is: you don't always have to put words to what you've been through to heal from it.
Brainspotting is a gentle, body-based therapy that works with trauma stored in your nervous system — reaching the places that words sometimes can't.
How does Brainspotting work?
Brainspotting was developed by therapist David Grand. It's based on the idea that where you look affects how you feel. Our eyes and our nervous system are deeply connected — and by finding specific eye positions (called 'brainspots'), a trained therapist can help access and release trauma stored deep in the brain.
During a Brainspotting session, you might:
Focus on a distressing feeling or memory — just as much as feels okay
Hold a gentle gaze at a specific point in your visual field that your therapist helps you find
Notice what comes up in your body — sensations, images, emotions — without having to analyze or explain them
Experience a natural release and settling as your nervous system processes what's been held there
🌿 The beauty of Brainspotting: It meets you where you are. You don't have to be eloquent about your pain. You don't have to tell the whole story. Your body knows the way to healing — Brainspotting helps you follow it. |
What can brainspotting help with?
People seek out Brainspotting therapy for many reasons. It can be especially helpful for:
Complex or developmental trauma (abuse, neglect, early attachment wounds)
Trauma that feels 'stuck' or hasn't responded to talk therapy alone
Somatic (body-based) symptoms like chronic tension, pain, or shutdown
Anxiety, panic, phobias, and overwhelm
Performance anxiety and blocks — in athletes, creatives, and professionals
Grief and loss that feels lodged in the body
Is brainspotting right for you?
Brainspotting may be a beautiful fit if you:
Feel like talk therapy hasn't quite reached the root of your pain
Carry trauma in your body — tension, pain, numbness, or chronic activation
Prefer a quieter, more introspective approach to healing
Are curious about somatic or holistic mental health approaches
Brainspotting is a specialized modality, and we're fortunate to have a therapist in our practice who is trained in Brainspotting and currently welcoming new clients. When you reach out, we'll make sure you're connected with the right fit for what you're looking for.
You don't need to know anything about Brainspotting before your first session. Your therapist will walk you through every step and move at whatever pace feels safe for you.
Want to explore whether this approach is a fit? We'd love to talk
