Expressing “Stuck” with Art-making:
An Intro to Arts as Therapy
Sometimes clients feel stuck and cannot work their way through with words or traditional talk therapy. This training will lead participants through an art directive that Noelle has seen help clients express the feeling of being stuck, leaving them with fresh perspectives and renewed energy! This directive is just one example of how art/art-making can shift how people look at their challenges, help them to reframe goals to be more attainable, and most importantly, give themselves more grace around being human.
Additionally, Noelle will give a brief overview of how they practice “Arts as Therapy”.
Knowledge You Will Gain Through Training
Training attendees with leave with an education around:
-
the difference between Art Therapy vs Arts as Therapy
-
how to utilize the art directive taught during the training when other interventions are not successful in assisting clients with a feeling of stuckness
-
when creative interventions are appropriate to use as a talk therapist and when to refer out to an Art Therapist
-
why being objective with client art/art-making is so important
About the Trainer
Noelle (they/them) is a white, neuro-atypical, gender-fluid queer, and a human being who also needs support and care regarding their own mental health. They are a therapist who goes to therapy!
Noelle is pro-feeling feelings and trusting our guts. They believe in love, self-compassion, art as healing, community care as self care, honesty, authenticity and process over product. Their ideal clients are neuroatypical, polyamorous queers trying to figure this life thing out, who need support, and want to make art about it.
Noelle lives in Minneapolis with their loving partner and two senior dogs. They enjoy getting old (except the back pain and perimenopause), drinking tea or ginger ale, making so much art they don’t know what to do with it, and making the best connections/friendships as a 40-something human.
Noelle has a Bachelor's in Art Therapy from UW-Superior & a Master's degree in Art Therapy & Counseling from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, NM.
They are also a registered Art Therapist (ATR) with the Art Therapy Credentials Board.
50% of the proceeds from this training will be donated to the Perpich Center for Arts Education (an organization of Noelle's choosing).
The Perpich Center for Arts Education provides all Minnesota students the opportunity to develop, enhance, and integrate their artistic and academic abilities to their highest potential. To learn more about their work, please click here to visit the Perpich Center for Arts Education's website.
