Growing up in a culturally diverse neighborhood has shaped my perspective on mental health and therapy. I have seen how cultural beliefs can either support or hinder the willingness to seek help. By recognizing the importance of cultural backgrounds, personal struggles, and community dynamics, I strive to connect with clients more genuinely. This approach helps create a therapeutic relationship founded on understanding and respect, enabling clients to navigate their challenges with greater confidence. Ultimately, my goal is to facilitate healing and growth, acknowledging that every individual’s journey is unique.

Recognizing and respecting the cultural background, beliefs, and values of each participant ensures that therapy is tailored to their specific needs. This involves ongoing learning and self-reflection to address my own biases and assumptions.

Creating a safe space is also crucial for me in therapy sessions. Participants should feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment. To establish this environment, I use affirmations and validate the lived experiences of their participants. For example, I might say, "It is completely understandable to feel stressed given the circumstances you are facing”. Such affirmations show participants that their feelings are valid and that they are not alone in their struggles.

Another important aspect of supporting participants is addressing internalized messages. Many individuals carry beliefs about themselves shaped by societal norms and expectations. These internalized messages can lead to feelings of inadequacy or low self-esteem. By encouraging participants to explore and challenge these beliefs, I help them develop a more positive self-image. For example, a participant who has internalized negative messages about their abilities may be guided to recognize their achievements and strengths.

I often use TF-CBT, CBT, Mirror therapy (prolonged exposure)

Somatic practices focus on the connection between the body and mind. I use techniques that emphasize the sensations within the body and how these sensations can influence emotions and thoughts. For instance, practices like breathing exercises not only promote physical health but also encourage self-awareness and mindfulness. I also use Journal for creativity, and recollection.
