A Minneapolis-Based Therapy Space for Adoptees and Individuals with Foster and Kinship Care Histories to Be Seen, Heard, and Supported

At MindBalance Mental Health Care, we provide affirming, trauma-informed support for adoptees and individuals with experiences in foster care, kinship care, or guardianship.

Based in Minneapolis and serving communities across Minnesota, our approach is grounded in the understanding that these lived experiences encompass a complexity of emotions, including resilience, grief, and strength.

We specialize in working with individuals navigating:

  • Identity, belonging, and cultural disconnection

  • Grief and loss related to adoption or placement

  • Attachment wounds and complex family dynamics

  • Life transitions, emotional overwhelm, and trauma

We center adoptees and people with out-of-home care experiences—not adoptive or foster families—in our work. Our therapists are trained in adoption- and trauma-competent care and are committed to honoring your full story.

Whether you're just beginning to explore these experiences or seeking continued support, we’re here to partner with you.

Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that our business is located on the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary lands of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ people, particularly the Wahpekute Band. We honor their enduring relationship with the land and pay our respects to their elders, past and present. We recognize that this land acknowledgment is just a first step in addressing the history of colonization and its lasting impacts on Indigenous communities. As part of our commitment, we will be donating 1% of any profits from the previous year to the Native Governance Center, an organization dedicated to strengthening Native leadership and supporting Native self-governance. This donation will be made by May 1st each year. We strive to support Indigenous sovereignty, equity, and community efforts in meaningful ways.
